This episode of Penn Vital Signs follows the
story of two patients who suffer from epilepsy.
While one patient suffers from grand mal seizures
which are life threatening, the other patient
suffers from chronic seizures which are aggravated
by a tumor. Although they experience different
types of seizures, both kinds are equally serious,
debilitating and frustrating. While many epilepsy
patients are treated with medication, these two
patients need surgery to regain control of their
lives.
A series of tests will be performed on each
patient to determine the area of the brain responsible
for their seizures. Once this is assessed, follow
these two patients as they undergo a remarkable
surgery they hope will render them seizure-free.
Originally aired March 2004.
