Waiting Time and Status

After patients are placed on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waiting list, they may wait varying amounts of time for a pancreas. The waiting time depends on several factors, including tissue and blood types, as well as organ availability.

The waiting time for a pancreas has increased dramatically, because the demand far exceeds the supply -- and this imbalance continues to grow. During the transplant evaluation, the transplant coordinator will give you information that will be helpful during the waiting period. Until your transplant, you'll see the transplant team annually.
