Pancreas Transplant Program

The Penn Transplant Institute was the first program in the Delaware Valley to offer the option of pancreas transplantation. Since 1986, the Penn Transplant Institute has performed more than 100 pancreas transplants. Penn offers several procedures, each based on the patient's individual needs, including:

  • Simultaneous kidney/pancreas transplantation
  • Pancreas transplantation after kidney transplant
  • Solitary pancreas transplantation

A multidisciplinary team of specialists manages the patient from the transplant evaluation visit through the procedure to postoperative care. Our goal is to provide the highest quality care to our patients and to restore each patient to a full and productive life. We work with the patient, as well as his or her family and physician, to develop the best treatment and follow-up care plan to meet his or her needs.

Our team includes endocrinologists, nephrologists, transplant surgeons, psychiatrists, cardiologists, neurologists, ophthalmologists, nurse coordinators, social workers, a financial coordinator and discharge planners.

After the patient is discharged, our nursing team closely monitors his or her status. Patients can speak with a transplant nurse 24 hours a day about medications, diet, activity or other concerns.

Need an appointment? Request one online 24 hours/day, 7 days/week or call 800-789-PENN (7366) to speak to a referral counselor.
