About the Liver Transplant Program
The Penn Transplant Center of the Hospital of
the University of Pennsylvania provides comprehensive
medical and surgical care for patients with end
stage liver disease requiring liver transplantation.
The program evaluates over 300 patients and performs
more than 100 liver transplants each year, making
Penn's program the largest liver transplant program
in the Delaware Valley and one of the top 10 programs
in the nation, with outcomes
that exceed national averages.
Penn Liver Transplant surgeons, physicians and
nurse coordinators are nationally recognized experts
in clinical care and bring vast experience to
the Liver Transplant Program. Innovative programs
include:
The Liver Transplant Team members are also internationally
recognized for cutting edge basic science research
in hepatology, immunology and transplant biology.
A team of specialists and consultants from throughout
the Medical Center provide comprehensive care
to each patient, from the evaluation visit through
the transplant procedure and postoperative period.
Our goal is to provide the highest quality care
and to restore each patient to a full and productive
life.
Although our program is large we pride ourselves
on maintaining a feeling of "family"
between the patient and their family, physicians,
nurses and administrative staff.
We work closely with the patient, referring gastroenterologist,
family practitioner and primary care physician
to develop the best treatment and follow-up care
to meet the patient's needs.
