Living Donor Surgery Costs

The donor's evaluation and hospitalization costs are generally covered completely by the recipient's Medicare and/or insurance. The donor isn't responsible for any of these expenses. However, the donor will not be reimbursed for lost income, transportation expenses, or personal expenses, such as telephone calls.

If the donor has short-term disability coverage, the transplant center may be able to help process the forms. The transplant team may also be able to help the donor get answers to insurance coverage questions.
