JKCC Receives Komen Grant
The Joan Karnell Cancer Center at Pennsylvania
Hospital is proud to announce the receipt of
one of 30 grants awarded by the Philadelphia
Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation.
Over $1.8 million dollars was distributed by
the Komen Foundation as a result of fundraising
efforts throughout 2005, including the 15th Annual
Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure.
The Joan Karnell Cancer Center project selected
for funding, titled “Breaking Barriers
to Breast Cancer Care,” was awarded $40,000
for education and support services. This funding
will provide temporary gap grants to women undergoing
treatment for breast cancer, provide educational
materials and lymphedema supplies, provide Healthy
Balance programs for women who have completed
treatment for breast cancer and provide a community
education program on early detection of breast
cancer.
