Penn Spine Service
Comprised of nationally recognized spine specialists,
Penn Spine Service physicians are leaders in the
diagnosis and treatment of spine disorders. In
fact, Penn Orthopaedics at Pennsylvania Hospital
is one of only 11 sites in the nation that participates
in a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) study
to determine the effectiveness of total disc replacement
–just one of the many spinal services we
offer.
Diagnosis and Treatment
If you are suffering from a spinal disorder, our
goal is to alleviate your pain and restore function.
With that in mind, after your initial consultation,
our doctors will often consult with physicians
from a number of other disciplines to find a solution
tailored to your individual needs.
The Penn Spine Service provides non-operative
management of herniated discs, pinched nerves,
neck pain, and low back pain. We also have one
of the best safety records in the country for
discography and myelograms – and we have
extensive experience with specialized x-ray equipment
that is used to guide spinal injections.
Surgery
If surgery is required, take comfort in the knowledge
that you have one of the most experienced spinal
surgery teams on your side. Our spine surgeons
have developed new techniques for complex spinal
reconstruction and fusions – and they perform
total disc replacement (TDR), a revolutionary
procedure for the treatment of degenerative disc
disease, a painful condition that affects thousands
of Americans. We also have extensive experience
with neurosurgical procedures, such as discectomies
and laminectomies. Our chief of spine surgery
is a national resource for patients with scoliosis.
