Intensive Care Nursery at HUP
The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) and the Transitional
Care Nursery (TRAN) at the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania (HUP) provide treatment for babies
with special medical needs. Our 30-bed Level III
nursery (the highest care level) and our 6-bed
Transitional Care Nursery are staffed by a team
of physicians from The
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP),
as well as nurses, respiratory therapists and
nutritionists who specialize in infant intensive
care. The ICN staff treats newborns in the most
high-risk situations from birth through to their
transition home.
Our ICN provides space for parents to visit with
their babies. The Intensive Care Nursery encourages
family-centered care and includes a private room
for breastfeeding mothers and special consultation
rooms for parents to meet with their baby's care
team.
