Neonatology at HUP
Specialists within the Division of Neonatology
from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
have been providing medical care for high-risk
infants at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
for over a decade.
Our neonatology team has extensive experience
in the delivery room stabilization and subsequent
care of high-risk infants, including very small
premature infants as well as larger infants born
with a variety of medical conditions such as infection
and congenital anomalies. Pediatric medical sub-specialists
from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
also provide specialized medical consultation
on newborns at the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania.
Neonatology physicians participate in research
and education as faculty members of the University
of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Our physicians
are active in research on a variety of newborn
conditions, including chronic lung disease in
premature infants, newborn infant growth and nutrition,
newborn jaundice – bilirubin metabolism,
newborn infection, genetic influences on newborn
lung disease and the long term effects of newborn
conditions on development.
Our physicians participate in the education of
a variety of health care workers, including neonatology
fellows, pediatric residents, medical students,
and nurse practitioners.
The neonatal staff assesses your baby's health,
provides care for your baby while in the hospital
and talks with you about important medical needs
during your baby's first months of life.
