Soy: The Low-Fat Protein

Soy: The Low-Fat Protein

Adding soybeans and soy products to your diet is very beneficial to your health. "Soy is an excellent protein alternative, very low in saturated fat and easier than you may think to add to your daily menu," offers Randi Cardonick, MS, registered dietitian with Penn Health for Women. Also, regular intake of isoflavone-containing soy products has been shown to decrease the severity of hot flashes associated with menopause.

  • Try some of the many soy products out there - soy milk, tofu, marinated tofu, Boca Burgers, Smart Dogs, and tempeh, just to name a few.
  • Add tofu to some of your favorite recipes like chili, lasagna, soups, and stirfrys.
  • Mix silken tofu with your favorite fruit for a healthy shake.
  • Drink a cup of soy milk.
