Penn’s Gynecologic Oncology Services Move to the New Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine

Opening this summer, the Perelman Center is a state-of-the-art, 360,000+ square-foot outpatient facility designed to create an ideal environment for patient-focused care and collaboration among health care professionals. Penn’s Division of Gynecologic Oncology will move to the third floor of the Perelman Center in Fall 2008. The Center is located across from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology is an integral part of the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, which will also be moving to the Perelman Center, and serves as a major referral center for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with premalignant or invasive cancers of the female genital tract. To provide patients with the best possible outcome, our gynecologic oncologists work closely with radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists.

Once the cancer programs have relocated to the Perelman Center, Penn will have the most comprehensive cancer care program of its kind. The space is designed to allow patients to receive comprehensive care in one location, ensuring exceptional and timely care.  Chemotherapy will be available in the new infusion suite just steps away from the gynecologic oncology offices.

The goal is to integrate cancer research and care provided by medical, surgical and radiation oncologists with the support services under one roof, thereby strengthening the vital partnership between caregivers and patients. Patients can easily access the integrated medicine and wellness programs offered by Penn, such as nutritional counseling and acupuncture. A patient education library and counseling and meditation rooms will be available.

Our gynecologic oncology program is looking forward to moving to this new space as its function, “green” environment and services will ultimately benefit our patients. We will continue to bring the latest breakthroughs and clinical trials to our patients.

The three major areas in cancer treatment— medical oncology, surgical oncology and radiation oncology — will be located in the same physical space in the Perelman Center.

Patients can move from diagnosis and imaging to evaluation and treatment all in the same building.
