Women's Health Nursing at HUP

Intensive Care Nursery

(Ravdin 8)

We specialize in Premature Infants experiencing Respitory Distress and medical and surgical complications. Technologies available include NICU tracer, oscillators, and nitric oxide. This Intensive Care Nursery has 30 monitored patient care beds in the ICN and 6 bed Trans located on the eighth floor of the Ravdin building.

Our professional patient care team consists of RNs who may be certified in RNC, IBCLC, and PICC, CNAs, Support Associate, and secretaries. Your typical patient care day ranges from 8 to 12 hours. The ratio of patients to nurse is (ICN) 2-3:1 and (Trans) 3-4:1.

The Department of Nursing Development, Education and Life Long Learning will partner with your clinical nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist, and preceptor to support and assist you through the completion of your orientation. The length of your orientation is based on your years of previous experience and consists of 16 weeks.

Labor and Delivery

(Ravdin 7)

WWe specialize in Obstetrics. We allow our patients to go through their birth experience in the same room, where they can progress through the childbirth continuum without disruption. Our goal is to provide high-quality efficient maternal/fetal nursing care to our obstetric patients.

The unit is designed to care for all pregnant women with medical or obstetrical complications of pregnancy for the most positive outcome. Technologies available include Computerized Nursing Documentation, Central Fetal Monitoring, and Telemetry. This Labor and Delivery Unit has 14 monitored patient care beds located on the seventh floor of the Ravdin building.

Our professional patient care team consists of RNs who may have NCC Certifications that include Inpatient Obstetrics and Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Practitioners, CNAs, OR Technicians, Support Associate, and Secretaries. Your typical patient care day ranges from 4, 8, or 12 hours. The ratio of patients to nurse is 2:1.

The Department of Nursing Development, Education and Life Long Learning will partner with your clinical nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist, and preceptor to support and assist you through the completion of your orientation. The length of your orientation is based on your years of previous experience and includes neonatal stabilization and resuscitation, OR procedures and fetal surgery procedures that range from 8 to 14 weeks.

Maternity Unit

(Silverstein 8)

We provide individualized care to mothers and their families that equips them for success at home with their new families. We specialize in Postpartum and Well Baby Care. Technologies include Hospital Grade Breast Pumps. This Maternity Unit has 33 monitored patient care beds located on the eighth floor of the Silverstein building.

Our professional patient care team consists of RNs who may be certified in Maternal Newborn Nursing and Lactation Consultant and CNAs. Your typical patient care day ranges from 8 to 12 hours. The ratio of patients to nurse is 6-8:1.

The Department of Nursing Development, Education and Life Long Learning will partner with your clinical nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist, and preceptor to support and assist you through the completion of your orientation. The length of your orientation is based on your years of previous experience and includes an intensive 5 day OB Orientation that ranges from 8 to 12 weeks.

OB/GYN/GYN Oncology

(Silverstein 7)

Patients admitted to this unit have issues including but not limited to: premature labor or rupture of membranes, complicated post partum issues, GYN cancers, GYN surgery, breast reconstruction, plastic surgery, radiation oncology and surgical oncology patients. Technologies available include Telemetry, Chemotherapy (both Intravenous and Intraperitoneal) external fetal monitoring. This OB/GYN/GYN Oncology Unit has 27 monitored patient care beds located on the seventh floor of the Silverstein building.

Our professional patient care team consists of RNs who may be certified in AWHONN – Care of women and infants and OCN – Oncology certification, CNAs, secretaries, and Nursing Support Associates. Your typical patient care day ranges from 4, 8, or 12 hours. The ratio of patients to nurse is 4-6:1.

The Department of Nursing Development, Education and Life Long Learning will partner with your clinical nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist, and preceptor to support and assist you through the completion of your orientation. The length of your orientation is based on your years of previous experience and consists of 12 weeks, which includes the residency program, as well as an intensive 5-day OB orientation.

Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation

(Ravdin 6)

The patients admitted have many and varied medical diagnoses, although most common ones include stroke, brain tumors, neuromuscular disorders, musculoskeletal diseases, amputation, trauma, and complex medical diseases. Technologies include Easy Stand Assist Device, Bladder scanner, EKG, Feeding tubes/pumps, and IV therapy. This Rehabilitation Unit has 24 monitored patient care beds located on the sixth floor of the Ravdin building.

Our professional patient care team consists of RN, Nursing Assistants, PT, OT, TR, Speech Therapists, Neuropsychologists “reside” on the unit and participate in team interventions, care planning, CEQI committees, and patient care committees who may be certified in CARF, The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission, Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurses, and Certified Nurse Administrator. Your typical patient care day ranges from 8 to 12 hours. The ratio of patients to nurse is 6:1 during the day and 5-9:1 during the afternoon.
