Pulmonary Vascular Disease
Our pulmonary physicians, thoracic surgeons,
radiologists and lung pathologists have been
working together for more than 20 years to advance
the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension
and thromboembolism.
Pulmonary Hypertension
For patients with newly discovered pulmonary
hypertension, the team offers a comprehensive
diagnostic evaluation aimed at distinguishing
primary from secondary causes of pulmonary hypertension, and assessing
patients for optimal therapy. The team has
extensive experience with vasodilator assessment
and use of approved and investigational intravenous,
inhaled, and oral therapies, including prostanoids,
endothelin receptor antagonists and PDE5 inhibitors.
Thromboembolism
Many diagnostic techniques are available
for evaluation of patients with suspected thromboembolism.
Once diagnosed, the pulmonary physicians in
the program have extensive experience with
thrombolytic therapy. Radiologists on the team
can offer placement of specialized filters.
Surgical treatment is also an option, and Penn
is one of the leading Centers in the country
specializing in pulmonary thromboendarterectomy.
