For recent graduates from an accredited BSN/RN program, PPMC also offers a special program for new to practice nurses who are interested in working in a medical surgical area of the hospital.

Based on the assessment of the NTP nurses' learning styles, clinical strengths and weaknesses, we modify the program to meet their educational needs. Emphasis is placed on application of critical thinking in emergent and urgent situations and enhancement of clinical skills.

The informal classroom setting enhances open communication, self-reflection, and the mentoring process. Classroom modules include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Medication administration review with emphasis on quality administration and risk management
  • Documentation and Sunrise computer orientation
  • Phlebotomy and peripheral and central IVs - hands on care
  • Pain management, PCA and epidural – hands on care
  • 12 hour respiratory care and BiPAP support – hands on care
  • Remote telemetry course – Assessment and nursing needs
  • Code readiness for medical surgical nurse – The golden 3 minutes – hands on care
  • Cardiac, GI assessment – hands on care

A precepted clinical orientation to facilitate the transition into the role of the staff nurse is also offered. During this time, safety, responsibility and accountability will be of primary focus. It is required that the graduate nurse has a BSN, RN license before date of hire or a temporary license and state board examination date within 60 days from date of hire. A NCLEX review course is offered free of charge.
