No matter which section of Philadelphia you choose to live in, you'll find a classic American city with easy access to and from any one of the three UPHS hospitals. Whether driving or by public transportation, Philadelphia is easy to navigate. Named “America's Next Great City” by the National Geographic Traveler, Philadelphia is viewed as an “open city” because it welcomes people from all walks of life and every corner of the world. A city of neighborhoods, each has its own character and all are culturally and ethnically diverse.
University City is one of Philadelphia's most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods. This 2.2 square mile area of West Philadelphia is home to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pennsylvania, one of only eight Ivy League institutions in the United States. A source of education, science, medicine and research, this dynamic, close-knit community is home to college students, artists, and families who co-exist amid world-class universities, dining, nightlife and cultural offerings.
West Philadelphia is home to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Sitting on the west side of downtown Philadelphia, it is easily accessible by car or public transportation and offers a range of housing options and cultural activities.
The Society Hill section of Philadelphia is where Pennsylvania Hospital, the nation's first hospital, is located. A beautiful and historically preserved section of the city, Society Hill has the Washington Square Park, and is within walking distance to the downtown shopping district.
Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, is the nation's fifth largest city. It has a total of 152 neighborhoods that include West Philadelphia, South Philadelphia, North Philadelphia, and Northeast Philadelphia, as well as smaller communities such as Roxborough, Manayunk, Mount Airy, and Chestnut Hill.
The Philadelphia region experiences all four seasons, which makes the city and surrounding areas an excellent resource for year-round outdoor activities. From college and professional sports, to waterfront activities, visitors and residents alike enjoy all that the city has to offer. No matter what the interests, there is something to engage and involve everyone of every age.
