Making a Gift to Wissahickon Hospice
Wissahickon Hospice provides compassionate care
for patients with life-limiting conditions. We
recognize that there is more to the patient than
physical needs and comforts. Our experienced
staff ministers not only to the symptoms of the
illness, but also to the patient's emotional
and spiritual concerns, helping both our patients
and their loved ones with the challenges that
come with death and dying.
To cover the cost of care for all of our patients
and to provide services above and beyond one's
physical needs, Wissahickon Hospice relies on
generous gifts from individuals, community organizations,
foundations and corporations. You can make a
contribution by calling our development office
at 610-617-2474, or send a check or money order

Opportunities for Giving
- Special funds such as our Needy Patient Fund
(providing services to the uninsured and under-insured),
David Bradley Children's Bereavement Fund,
Education Fund, and Research, allow donors
to direct their gifts to specific services
or programs.
- Memorial and tribute gifts allow donors to
honor a loved one, observe a particular occasion
or say thank you to someone special. Often,
families specify “memorials to Wissahickon
Hospice in lieu of flowers” in funeral
notices. Our Light up a Life program, held
in December, provides a special forum for making
memorial and tribute gifts.
- Special events such as our Popcorn Day at
the Phillies or the Tim Thomas Charity Golf
Classic provide fun activities for donors interested
in attending and sponsoring events.
- Major gifts are larger contributions that
the donor may designate to capital expenses
(such as development of an inpatient hospice),
special programs (such as our volunteer program),
or one of our special funds.
- Bequests, insurance policies and retirement
plan assets provide a way for donors to make
a substantial gift while providing considerable
tax benefits to the donor or donor's heirs.
Donors can designate Wissahickon Hospice as
a beneficiary in their will, life insurance
policy or retirement funds.
- Gifts of appreciated stock, mutual fund or
real property allow donors to deduct the original
cost and “paper profit” present
in long-term appreciated property. Best of
all, the donor pays no capital gains tax.
- United Way Donor Option provides an easy
forum for payroll deductions. If your employer
participates in local United Way campaigns,
simply ask for a donor choice form and a list
of agencies. Complete the form and return it
with your United Way pledge.
- Matching gifts can increase your gift. If
your employer offers matching gifts, simply
obtain a matching gift form from your human
resources or payroll office, fill it out and
mail it to Wissahickon Hospice with your personal
contribution.
- Gifts in-kind are also a great way to support
Wissahickon Hospice's efforts. Items such as
toys and arts and crafts supplies benefit our
children's bereavement program, while our patients
enjoy care packages that include such items
as lotion, socks and mints. From time to time,
we will also seek office equipment or items
for raffles and special events.
