The Case for Giving to UPHS
The University of Pennsylvania Health System
(UPHS) provides care to over 2,000,000 outpatients
and 70,000 inpatients each year. The Health System
is a network of
medical centers and healthcare providers throughout
the Philadelphia region and beyond. Many patients
are drawn by Penn's global reputation for excellence
in care.
In 2005, UPHS provided $50,000,000 in care
to underinsured and/or uninsured patients, maintaining
a commitment to provide care to those in need,
regardless of financial resources. In today's
increasingly competitive health care market, and
during a time of declining support from traditional
sources, UPHS increasingly depends upon contributions
from the community at large to:
- Provide the best care possible to those in
need
- Advance medical research to provide new treatments
and/or cures for a broad range of illness
- Educate and train a bold new generation of
practitioners

Perelman
Center for Advanced Medicine
The Perelman
Center for Advanced Medicine offers
great promise to the entire Delaware
Valley Region as a model for the future
of healthcare. The Perelman Center incorporates
a patient-centered approach with the
most cutting-edge resources available
to treat and care for those who choose
UPHS for their care. The Center for Advanced
Medicine will open its doors in 2008.
Proton Therapy Treatment Facility
Penn is committed to bringing the very
best care to our region. The UPHS is beginning
construction of a new Proton
Therapy Treatment Facility which will
provide the Abramson Cancer Center – and
our region – with a powerful resource
to treat patients with the most advanced
and minimally invasive form of radiation
treatment available.
The new center will be shared with the
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP)
in order to provide treatment to pediatric
cancer patients. This new facility will
be the only one of its kind on the East
Coast between Boston and Florida, and is
scheduled to open in 2009.
