High-Risk GI Cancer Screening and Evaluation Program

Science has made rapid advances in understanding the genetic factor and underlying molecular programs that account for inherited forms of colorectal cancer. The Penn Digestive and Liver Center sponsors a risk assessment program with the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania. Genetic testing may be recommended for families with increased risk for known inherited forms of colorectal cancer.

Program staff includes expert gastroenterologists, with support from a genetic counselor. And patients and families at risk for esophageal, gastric, colorectal, pancreatic and liver cancer can be evaluated. This program coordinates its activities with chemoprevention trials and molecular diagnostics.
