About the Penn Pancreatic and Biliary Center
The Penn
Pancreatic Biliary Center is one of the
busiest pancreatic surgery programs in the
United States. At the center, Penn physicians
are involved in the ongoing research and development
of new surgical techniques and new treatments
for diseases of the pancreas, bile duct, liver
and stomach.
It is estimated that more than 30,000 people
in the United States were diagnosed with pancreatic
cancer last year. Unfortunately, the disease
is often associated with a high mortality rate.
For many patients, surgery is the best and most
successful treatment option.
Studies show that successful pancreatic cancer
surgery requires accurate diagnosis and surgeons
who are experienced in these complicated procedures.
Penn combines that experience with leading-edge
research to create a significant advantage for
patients who chose Penn for their treatment.

Research and Development of New Surgical Techniques
University of Pennsylvania
Health System (UPHS) physicians participate in
the ongoing development of new surgical techniques
for these diseases and are conducting the research — from
fundamental molecular-based studies to translational
research on novel treatments — that is
advancing the field.
