Adolescent Reproductive Health

Adolescence is the period between puberty and adulthood when many physical changes take place in a young girl’s body. Her endocrine glands begin producing hormones that cause her body to change and develop. In addition, her ovaries increase production of estrogen and other female hormones.

In some young women, these changes may occur too early, too often or not at all, which may signal an endocrine disorder that could affect her future fertility and overall reproductive health. A reproductive endocrinologist is a certified obstetrician/gynecologist who evaluates, diagnoses, manages and treats endocrine disorders that affect menstrual and reproductive function.

What we treat

Penn Fertility Care providers are specially trained in diagnosing and treating a full range of adolescent reproductive health issues, including:

We offer highly specialized care for young women with adolescent reproductive health concerns, including a dedicated Polycytic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Center to manage the full range of PCOS symptoms and related health conditions. In addition, for adolescents undergoing cancer therapy, Penn physicians are working tirelessly with a consortium of researchers developing improved and effective fertility preservation options.

About our team

Penn Fertility Care providers recognize young women’s special needs and concerns about changes in their bodies. Our specialists in adolescent gynecology provide the kind of one-on-one care young women want in an atmosphere that allows them to feel comfortable talking about their health.
