Fifth Annual Philadelphia Go Red for Women Luncheon
Although you may be aware that heart disease is the number one killer of women, a surprising fact is that some heart attacks occur with only vague symptoms.
Symptoms of Heart Disease |
- Shortness of breath
- Chest discomfort—Fullness, squeezing, pressure or pain that lasts more than a few minutes or goes away and comes back
- Feelings of illness—such as nausea, lightheadedness, or breaking out in a cold sweat
- Upper body discomfort in the neck, jaw, stomach or back
- Unexplained anxiety and nervousness, weakness or overwhelming tiredness

While chest pain is a commonly known symptom, women are more likely to experience the more subtle signs, especially nausea, shortness of breath, and back or jaw pain. If you experience such symptoms, be sure to see your doctor and never wait more than five minutes to call 9-1-1.
Go Red for Women Luncheon
Proceeds from the Go Red for Women Luncheon benefit women’s cardiovascular research and AHA national sponsor Macy’s will provide designs for a red-themed fashion show during a heart healthy lunch. Karen Dougherty Buchholz, Vice President of Administration for the Comcast Corporation, will be honored as the 2008 Woman of Heart Honoree, joining an esteemed group. Individual tickets are $250. For event details, visit the American Heart Association website or contact Sherry Ashton at 610-234-2405.
In conjunction with this event, Kelly Anne Spratt, DO, a member of the American College of Cardiology and a physician at Penn Cardiac Care at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and Penn Cardiac Care at Radnor, will present “Know the Silent Signs of Heart Disease,” an educational seminar to help women understand the vague signs and symptoms of heart disease—especially those that do not show on screening tests.
