Department of Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine provides a full range of critical care, medical, surgical and trauma evaluation for the patient requiring emergency care in this region. Over 40,000 patients are treated annually. Penn Emergency Medicine faculty are board-certified in emergency medicine and/or internal medicine and have uncommon experience in the evaluation and stabilization of complex, undifferentiated, medical or surgical problems. The Department has developed prioritized care for patients with cardiologic and neurologic emergencies. The Emergency Medicine program is supported 24 hours a day, seven days a week by premier radiologic and laboratory technology.

Penn Emergency Medicine also provides several hybrid emergency services for specialized critical care. These include: management of major traumatic injury, hyperbaric medicine and toxicology service.

Minor or non-acute care evaluations are available in the Emergency Fast Track. A new state-of-the-art emergency facility features expanded clinical space, radiology suite and CT scan within the Emergency Medicine clinical care area.
