Preventive Cardiology and Lipid Program

The aim of the Penn Cardiac Care Preventive Cardiology Program is to both determine and reduce a person's risk of heart disease using state-of-the-art technologies and aggressive medical management.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States - 500,000 Americans die from heart disease every year - that's 4,000/day. Sudden cardiac arrest claims three lives every seven minutes. And, more than half of all heart attack victims never experienced any prior symptoms.

One of the most common risk factors of heart disease is high cholesterol. The Preventive Cardiology Program operates one of the largest lipid clinic in the area for the treatment of high cholesterol. If you have high cholesterol, you can participate in a number of research studies investigating new treatments for high cholesterol and other heart disease risk factors.

You can benefit from the Preventive Cardiology Program if you:

  • are overweight
  • have high cholesterol
  • have hypertension
  • have heart disease
  • have a family history of heart disease

Please call 1-800-789-PENN to contact a Penn Cardiac Care physician about your risk of heart disease and ways you can help prevent it.
