Mood Disorders Comprehensive Consultation Service

The Comprehensive Consultation Service (CCS) within the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Psychiatry provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art assessments and second opinions for individuals with mood and anxiety disorders, including: bipolar disorder, major depression, dysthymia, mood disorders secondary to medical conditions and anxiety disorders. The CCS also addresses questions regarding the optimal management of mood disorders during pregnancy and the post-natal period.

About Mood Disorders

Mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder, are characterized by extreme mood states that cause great distress and which interfere with daily living. Depressed persons may feel persistently sad, distressed, and hopeless even though there is no reason for them to feel that way. People with bipolar disorder may experience abnormally high energy and an elevated sense of mood and self that interferes with their ability to make reasonable choices, as well as depressed periods. Mood disorders are common and treatable medical illnesses.

Consultation

Our service is lead by nationally-renowned psychiatrists who specialize in the optimal treatment of complex mood disorders. They are able to provide cutting edge consultation on across the board therapeutic options including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and neuropsychiatric type interventions (electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), vagal nerve stimulation therapy (VNS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS)).
