Post-operative Shopping List


treadmill photoBefore you have surgery, you will be given instructions for the type of diet that is appropriate for the first few weeks at home. It will be very helpful to do your shopping for this specialized diet before your surgery.

Equipment needed:

  • Blender or food processor
  • 1/8 cup measuring cup
  • Strainer

Groceries:

  • Nutritional supplement (protein drinks) and/or sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast.
  • Lactaid 100 (nonfat milk) for lactose intolerant and Roux-en-Y patients; regular nonfat milk is okay for Lap-Band© patients.
  • Decaffeinated coffee and/or tea
  • Bottled water (if preferred over tap water)
  • Sugar substitute (Equal, Sweet'N Low, Splenda)
  • Sugar-free gelatin and pudding
  • Plain or light yogurt (sweetened with Nutrasweet)
  • Unsweetened juices (grape, apple, reduced calorie cranberry)
  • Sorbet or sherbet
  • Clear broth or bouillon
  • Cream or broth based soups (to be strained)
  • Cream of wheat or cream of rice
  • Potatoes (to be mashed and thinned)
